We joined Chuo City Marugoto Museum in 2013 so this is our 14th “Art Making Workshop.” We had our workshops at PILOT CORPORATION’s Pen Station Museum & Café in PILOT CORPORATION’s headquarters from 2013 to 2015. Since 2016, we have had our workshops at OZU WASHI, Tokyo.

Japanese artist, HIROYUKI DOI:
French cuisine chef turned self-taught artist, HIROYUKI DOI draws many small circles on washi, Japanese handmade paper using PILOT CORPORATION’s oil based very fine PILOT DRAWING PEN to create his mesmerizing Circle Drawings. The New York Times observed DOI’s work as “..delicate, mesmerizing and unusually beautiful..” Through his artworks, DOI tries to express human dialog, the co-existence of living creatures, the soul and peace. DOI says, "Through my artworks, I would like to send a message to future generations and people around the world that we can create a lot of things with our own hands, even art."

HIROYUKI DOI’s circle drawings have received critical recognition in the US, Europe, Australia and Japan since he began showing them at the Outsider Art Fair in New York in 2001.

Exhibition History:
HIROYUKI DOIʼs artworks were exhibited at American Folk Art Museum (New York), Halle Saint Pierre (Paris), La Maison Rouge (Paris), the Museum of Everything (London, Paris), Pinacoteca Agnelli (Torino), Museum of Old and New Art (Berriedale, Tasmania), Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, Vassar College (Poughkeepsie), Pen Station Museum (Tokyo), Intuit Art Museum (Chicago), the Menil Collection (Houston), the John Michael Kohler Arts Center (Sheboygan), Collection de lʼArt Brut (Lausanne), Tokyo Shibuya Koen-dori Gallery (Tokyo), Cincinnati Art Museum (Cincinnati) , the Menil Drawing Institute (Houston) and Festival du Dessin Arles 2025 (Arles, France).

Auction at Christie’s New York:
HIROYUKI DOIʼs circle drawings were auctioned at Christieʼs New York in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Profit of the sales were used to educate Harlem Children. We are very happy that we can contribute to the society. In Europe, DOI’s work was auctioned and sold at PIASA, Paris in 2025.

Since 2016, we have had HIROYUKI DOI’s annual solo show at OZU WASHI, Tokyo. We will have “HIROYUKI DOI OZU WASHI 2026” from September 15 to December 15, 2026. This time, DOI will be using Japanese washi, Italian handmade Amalfi paper which is the oldest paper in Europe and pulp machine made paper to create DOI's circle drawings. Enjoy DOI’s mesmerizing circle drawings on three different papers.

Artist won’t be at OZU WASHI during the duration of a show, however, enjoy DOI’s Art freely.

HIROYUKI DOI Pen & Art 2026 Art Making Workshop:

In our workshop, participants see HIROYUKI DOI’s artworks, express their impressions of DOI's art, ask him questions, then observe how DOI creates small circles on washi and create their own artworks using the same pen and washi DOI uses.
Finally, participants share each other’s artworks and express their own art making processes freely.
