This is our sixth Art Making Workshop in Chuo City Marugoto Museum.
The self-taught Japanese artist, HIROYUKI DOI’s circle drawings have earned critical recognition in the U.S.A. and Europe since he began showing them overseas in 2001.
Roberta Smith(2002) of The New York Times says, “…They are delicate, mesmerizing and unusually beautiful… “ on Hiroyuki Doi’s artworks.
In his art, Hiroyuki Doi alludes to such subjects as the soul, the cosmos, the co-existence of living creatures, human cells, human dialog and universal peace. He does so by creating images that consist of many small circles made with PILOT black-ink drawing pens on washi from OZU WASHI.
Doi says, “Through my artworks, I would like to send a message to future generations that we can create a lot of things by using our own hands including artworks. This human touch is very important not only in art but also in all communication.”
In our workshop, first, participants see artist, Hiroyuki Doi’s artworks, then observe how Hiroyuki Doi creates small circles on washi, ask him questions, and create their own artworks using the same pen and washi Hiroyuki Doi uses.
Finally, participants share each other’s artwork, express their own art making process freely.
Yoshiko Otsuka is happy to serve as a facilitator for the workshop.
We look forward to seeing you!
